It covers the first things you need to know about your first commission (and get paid for it), planning, tax, copyright, pitching and negotiating. The cost for NUJ members is \u00a340, student members \u00a330 and non-members \u00a3110.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuj.org.uk\/learn\/ems-event-calendar\/first-steps-in-freelancing-15-october-2021.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the next edition is on Friday 15 October<\/a>.<\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Winning and negotiating freelance work<\/strong>, which goes deeper into these areas with more role-playing exercises, will next take place on Friday 14 May. As it says on the webpage, those attending should be prepared to take part in workshop-style exercises and to talk about money.
