The Register has published my walking tour of Cambridge’s computing history<\/a> from Alan Turing (King’s College) to Clive Sinclair (6a King’s Parade, just across the street). On the way, it takes in Porgy the bear<\/a>, EDSAC, Acorn, Elite, Robert Maxwell and a fight in the Baron of Beef.<\/p>\n

On that ‘fight’ (between Clive Sinclair and Acorn founder Chris Curry), which provides the excuse to end the tour in said pub:<\/p>\n

Journalist Michael Jeacock was present and fed the story to the Daily Mirror<\/i>. The paper published it on Christmas Eve, underneath a picture story of Mirror<\/i> proprietor Robert Maxwell and magician Paul Daniels headlined: \u201cHow to make a \u00a3million vanish!\u201d. Daily Express<\/i> columnist Jean Rook wrote that she found Sir Clive\u2019s fighting spirit sexy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As noted later, Robert Maxwell knew about making \u00a3millions vanish.<\/p>\n
