New training dates: winning and negotiating, first steps and data journalism

On Friday 8 June, I will be running a new one-day course, Winning and negotiating freelance work, for the National Union of Journalists in London. It is designed for those who have recently gone freelance or want to improve their skills in this area.

The course will include ideas and practice on how to win new work and negotiate its terms; what you need to earn; different ways to pitch ideas; how to produce a good quote; advice on ensuring you have an enforcable contract; and how to chase late payments.

Those attending be prepared to take part in lots of workshop-style exercises and, most terrifyingly, talk about money. It costs £70 for NUJ members, £60 for student NUJ members and £130 if you aren’t a member. Full details and booking.

Before then, I will be leading two existing courses. First steps in freelancing, which had a successful first outing in February, will run again at the NUJ in London on Friday 18 May 2018. This one costs £60 for NUJ members, £50 for student NUJ members and £110 for non-members. Full details and booking.

Finally, for City Lit in London I am running my Introduction to data journalism course on Saturday 5 May, costing £59 (or £24 for concessions). Full details and booking.
